Due to the impasse of a situation of incommunicability between two characters who love each other – a caring figure and one who needs care – the maintenance rituals towards their house become sublimated into declarations of love, into gestures of fidelity to a construction. The home fires uses the language of the sonnet to explore the emotional drama experienced by the caretaker. Under the corset of a calligraphic notebook, there are 30 sonnets, one for each day of the month of September, which were handwritten, alluding to the repetitive performance of his production.

This artist book appears as part of the project Light of September, which was showed at Galeria do Paço/CdC Paço, Universidade de Braga (Braga, Portugal) and was supported by Garantir Cultura, a grant for artistic creation conceded by the Portuguese Republic. The home fires continues to reflect upon some of the themes proposed by the exhibition, such as the concept of lasting Love and Love as work.

The book design, made by Tiago Madaleno, combines digital printing and manual labor. The book uses the Cormorant Garamond font family (Christian Thalmann, 2015), including Regular and Italic styles.

The physical format of the book has an unlimited print run. All its editions must replicate the original format and materials, must be produced by hand, and must be offered.
